Mike Almen, 77, of Northfield, passed away peacefully Monday morning, June 26, 2023, at Three Links Care Center in Northfield.
Michael Allen Almen was born on February 6, 1946, in Northfield, Minnesota, to Nikolai and Helen (Baker) Almen. He grew up in Northfield and graduated from Northfield High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and was honorably discharged. Mike was married to Pam Lord in 1981. He worked for Herman Schiell (blacktopping), Sheldahl, spent some of his summers on the farm, and later worked as a handyman. They raised their three sons in Northfield and later divorced.
Mike was best described as a “travelling soul.” He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, working out, and entertaining those around him. Mike had a soft heart and was known to take in stray dogs and cats, whom he would quickly come to love and cherish.
He is survived by his children, Michael Lord of Winona, Nick (Jessica Mehan) of Dennison, and Chad (Colleen) of Northfield; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Wanda (Jim) Yngsdal of Wanamingo; sister-in-law, Ileen of Northfield; many nieces and nephews; and ex-wife, Pam Almen of Northfield. He was preceded in death by his parent and brothers, Bob and Joe.
A memorial service was held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Bierman Funeral Home in Northfield. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment followed the service in Vang Lutheran Cemetery, Holden Township. A reception followed the interment at Vang Lutheran Church.
